Design Philosophy and Process

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine De Saint-Exupery

I came across this quote when I was a young designer and have always kept it nearby as a reminder that simplicity is at the heart of good design.

Trained in the “Less is More” Bauhaus design tradition at the University of Cincinnati, the rigors of an iterative, design-thinking process stands at the core of how I approach every project. In keeping with that spirit, our process is simple but effective.:

First, understand who you are. We can’t go anywhere until we know where you’ve been and where you want to go. Same goes for who you want to reach.

Then, explore ideas, lots of them. Test them, polish them a bit, and discuss the best of them with you. You know your business better than we do, and your input is a valued part of the process.

Then, deliver the goods. We follow each project through to completion and make sure you’re kept well-informed along the way. Because nobody likes surprises.

This simple process—at least it looks simple, which makes you wonder why so few do it well—has kept Kroner Design cooking since 1998. We use it for all projects: brand identity, marketing collateral, and web design.
